Mayan Purification and Blessing Ceremony: Unique Experience in Hotel Künük

Purify your body and soul: immerse yourself in a traditional Mayan ceremony.

2023-04-03 | activity

Mayan ceremonies with shamans for cleansing and purification are performed to harmonize and balance the energy of a space and the people present in it. These ceremonies are an important spiritual and cultural practice in the Mayan tradition that seeks to connect us with nature and our ancestors.

According to the Mayan cosmovision, everything in the universe is interconnected and has an energy that the environment and people can influence. Therefore, it is necessary to regularly cleanse and purify this energy to maintain harmony in daily life.

In addition, Maya shamans have a deep knowledge of nature and the spiritual practices of their ancestors. Through their experience and wisdom, they perform ceremonies to eliminate the negative, bring balance and strengthen the bond between the participants and nature.

This is the magic of our hotel in Mérida.

At Hotel Künük, we are committed to offering our guests unique and unforgettable experiences. Therefore, we are pleased to share one of the most extraordinary ceremonies we have had the opportunity to experience: the Mayan ceremony of cleansing and blessing.

This ceremony is performed by our shaman, who goes through every corner of the hotel to bless it and ask permission from the spiritual inhabitants of the cosmic universe, placing Aluxes (tiny elves that live in natural places such as jungles, caves, or cenotes), and give way to a ritual focused on the color green, which represents the place where the earth is born while placing a sacred Ceiba tree.

This sacred tree has 13 branches that go to the universe and 9 steps that lead to the underworld, symbolizing duality and balance. It is worth mentioning that particular emphasis is placed on the number 13 since, for the Mayans, it represents the sacred.

In addition, multicolored candles are used to symbolize the different cardinal points. Black represents the west and Mother Earth; red represents the east and the fire where the sun rises; white represents the north, where water comes from; and yellow represents the south, where the seed fertilizes Mother Earth is born. These elements are designed to help balance the energies and create a peaceful environment in the space.

The ceremony also includes a laying on hands by our shaman, an excellent way to purify the soul and perform a spiritual cleansing in a relaxing and welcoming environment.
