What to do at night in Merida?

Discover the nocturnal experiences that the White City has for you.

2022-07-31 | merida

Although for many it is preferable to carry out their tourist activities during the day, it is not ruled out that the nights also have their natural, artistic and cultural charm. Thus, it is recommended that, when staying in one of the many Merida hotels, visitors tour the city at night too, and participate in the many events that take place only after the sun sets – spectacles worth seeing.

If you are worried about safety at night, put your fears aside, because Merida is known as one of the safest cities in the country, where the crime rate is very low. Additionally, the sites that we will recommend do not require a long visit or late night hours but rather at times when several people are still on the streets and visiting tourist spaces.

Santa Lucia Park

The Santa Lucía park is located near the downtown hotels in Merida, and it is a spectacular place to visit on Thursday nights, especially because the local troubadours put on a wonderful show and share the tradition of Yucatecan music. In short, the square is filled with trova, poetry, serenade and folklore, ideal for tourists or residents to enjoy deeply Mexican melodies.

If you are traveling with your family, partner or friends, it is definitely a pleasant space for you to share an unforgettable experience with them. Remember that Yucatan is one of the most recognized places for its troubadours, who compose poetic melodies that are special and pleasant to listen to; For this reason, we recommend that you visit Santa Lucía park on any Thursday night and enjoy the presentations.

The troubadours begin with their serenade at 9:00 p.m. every Thursday, in Santa Lucía park, which is located at Calle 60, por 55, Centro (downtown). So, it's best to show up a few minutes before to get a good spot to enjoy the presentation hassle-free.

Nightly bike rout

Exploring tourist areas of the city by bicycle is a pleasant, sporty and family experience, especially if it is a place that has not been visited before because you’ll see brand-new different, cultural and harmonious sites. Now, imagine this adventure on Saturday nights, accompanied by other tourists or residents looking for unique and enjoyable experiences in Merida, Yucatán.

Do not worry if you do not have a bicycle, because, in the park and other surrounding areas, these means of transport are available for rent, so that no one misses out on living the great experience of knowing Merida on the first Saturday of each month, at night. The tours are shorter than in the morning hours so that individuals do not return late to their hotels or homes.

Walk around the Plaza Grande

The Plaza Grande is considered the heart of the city, where multiple colonial and important buildings for the site can be seen; Thus, visiting it is almost mandatory, especially if it is the first time you are staying in one of the many historic center hotels in Merida, because there you will get to know the history, culture and traditional environment that surrounds the beautiful place.

Now, taking a walk at night in the Plaza Grande is phenomenal, because each of the representative buildings is observed with attractive and alluring lights so that you can take your pictures and make special memories. In the same way, at the Olimpo Cultural Center, which is located nearby, musical presentations are held on Tuesdays, for you to enjoy in the company of your loved ones.

Museum of the Mayan World

During the nights, the Museum of the Mayan World performs a show surrounded by creative lights and ambient sounds so that people come and take spectacular photographs in this space full of culture and ancestral tradition. Definitely, Merida is a place that can be visited both during the day and at night, offering the same quality in its experiences.

At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to unwind and relax in one of the bars of the many Merida hotels available around, without worries and surrounded by spectacular drinks, ideal to end the night in the best way. Additionally, your room will be available and ready for you to rest and recover your energy to continue your journey the next day.
